My Background

My roots are in a small town on the Southern Oregon Coast. I earned my B.A. in English from the University of Oregon, with a minor in creative writing. After graduating, I moved to New York City where I started working at Open Road Media before transitioning to Macmillan Learning.

I started learning SEO and content strategy while working in digital media and publishing. In 2018, I began working with media, B2C, and travel companies in a freelance capacity. I took online courses in my spare time to refine my skills as a writer and marketer.

I left the city and spent the next eight months traveling. At the same time, I built my writing and marketing network. I landed in Portland, Oregon in early 2020 and accepted a content strategy role at Guru.

In the years since I started writing professionally, I’ve learned that I love researching a new tool, topic, or industry. I love getting to know a new audience and creating content that reads well and resonates with them.

I’ve worked on in-house content teams and as a contractor. Freelance writing grants me the opportunity to work with many different types of innovative companies that are doing very cool work. I get to learn new things all the time and collaborate with brilliant people.

When not writing for work, I’m most likely tending to my extensive collection of indoor plants, reading, writing (it never stops), exploring the Pacific Northwest, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. I’m the proud mom of three cats and a pup. Together they ensure my days are always a little chaotic.

FAQ

What do you look for in a client?

First and foremost, I look for clarity and transparency. We have an open dialog about expectations, capacity, workflow, and logistics of our engagement. I prioritize clients who have a strong sense of their brand, audience, and content goals. If SEO is a priority, I ask for your goals and target keywords here. I have access to SEO tools for optimizing content if you don't currently have one in use.

How do you think about and use AI?

Just like Grammarly, Hemmingway, Semrush, or any other platform, I view AI as a tool. I currently find it most helpful for research. It allows me to quickly get a sense of the right questions to ask, gaps in the existing content published by competitors, and the right technical language to help me have quality conversations with SMEs.

That said, AI is an ever-changing topic and technology. I stay appraised of how content marketers iterate on their use of the tool as it evolves. Through continued experimentation, I fine-tune my usage to make my research and editorial process more efficient.

Do you have a rate sheet?

I have a rate sheet, but I do not make it public for two reasons:

1. The rate sheet is a baseline for how I price my services. Rarely is it set in stone. I'm always willing to work with clients, especially if the project is of particular interest. I find that my rates are on par with other industry professionals with my level of experience.

2. Variations in each project, including rounds of edits, interviews, strategy research, and SEO, will change the cost of the project. I want to avoid presenting a rate that might change depending on the scope of the project.
